I can't wear this skirt...look at all my cellulite!!!
Women are supposed to have cellulite!
I know its not fair that some people have more of it than others, but it is there for a good reason, to preserve life. Would you like to know what it is and why men don't get it'''
Cellulite is an unscientific term for fat. Plain old everyday run of the mill fat.
Contrary to what you may have heard, cellulite is not caused by the build up of toxins and undesirables. That lumpy effect only happens when the fat cells get too full of fat. Not a nice way to put it but its true although you won't see it printed on the side of a "cellulite reducing" cream from your local pharmacy.
As you may or may not know, fat is stored in cells which are all over the body. The number of fat cells that we have are determined by genetics (yet another thing we can blame our parents for).
When there is a large quantity of fat in the body the fat cells fill up like miniature water balloons. When there is a under supply of fat in the body the fat cells empty out. When the "subcutaneous" fat cells (the ones just beneath your skin) fill up they will push up against your skin. Your skin is attcahed to your muscle by fibrous bands which run vertically from the muscle to your skin and are designed to restrict your skinfrommoving all over your body (not a good look). When the fat pushes up against your skin, the tightness of these bands pulls on your skin causing that dimpling on your skin like an orange peel or like buttons on a sofa cushion.
For those of you out there that may have cellulite don't feel ashamed, even very slightly built women still have cellulite. These women may be small in stature but still have a relatively high body fat levels and very little muscle. Even supermodels have cellulite and don't the tabloids love pointing out!
